The Partner Visa pathway enables spouses, de facto partners, or intended spouses of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia. Applicants often lodge applications for both the temporary (820 if onshore / 309 if offshore) and permanent (801 or 100) partner visas concurrently. While the temporary component is being processed, you may live, work, and study in Australia.

Two years after applying (or sooner in certain circumstances), the Department reviews whether your relationship remains genuine and may grant the permanent visa. Applicants must provide robust evidence of a continuing, genuine relationship, meet health and character requirements, and have an eligible sponsor.
